Managing Director

Please welcome the next Managing Director for Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette, Rachel Lopez!

Lopez, who previously had served as managing director of the Nevada Shakespeare Company and co-managing director of the Good Luck Macbeth Theatre, succeeds Steven Koehler. Koehler accepted the managing director position at a theater in Virginia.
Lopez is familiar with Civic Theatre and its mission, venues, organizational structure and volunteers, having served as the Civic Youth Theatre director from 2000-2002.

"Civic has grown stronger under Steven's stewardship and the work of its board of directors, professional staff and volunteers. This growth has not gone unnoticed by the Greater Lafayette area, as community support continues to rise," Lopez said. "It is very rare for a community theater to exist as long as Civic's 86 years; to own its venues, mortgage-free; and to place education at such a high priority. Civic Theatre is an outstanding institution and it is an honor to be working with such a talented team. After a 16 year absence, I look forward to collaborating and leading Civic Theatre into an exciting new chapter."

Tom Long, president of Civic Theatre's board of directors, said Lopez was considered a top candidate throughout the search and hiring process, which included 14 total candidates from Alabama, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Texas, Oregon and Pennsylvania.

"Rachel's managerial experience was among the strongest we saw, but what especially highlighted her candidacy was her ability to advocate for Civic Theatre to private individuals, local businesses and larger corporations," Long said. "Civic Theatre's strategic plan includes several goals to extend our priorities in education and to celebrate our centennial anniversary in 2031. The Board of Directors believes Rachel Lopez can lead us as we meet and expand upon those goals."

Lopez will begin in her position on January 16. Civic Theatre will host a meet-and-greet event to introduce her to the Greater Lafayette community in the first quarter of 2018.

A special thank you to Hampton Inn and Suites for donating rooms for the candidates’ overnight stays.
