Esther, a skilled African-American seamstress, sews the finest intimate apparel for
customers from refined Fifth Avenue wives to prostitutes in the racy Tenderloin district. Her story explores the insidious effects of racism and classism, the social oppression of women, and the bravery, hard work, friendship, and love, of people forgotten by history.

The director is looking to cast 6 actors, 2 men and 4 women.

ESTHER: 35, African-American.

MRS. DICKSON: 50s, African-American.

MRS. VAN BUREN: 30s, white American.

MR. MARKS: 30s, Romanian Jewish immigrant.

MAYME: 30s, African-American.

GEORGE: 30s, Barbadian immigrant.

Those auditioning should prepare a short monologue of their choosing (not to exceed 90 seconds). Those auditioning will also be reading from the script. Please arrive at the top of auditions and be familiar enough with the script to identify which role you may have an interest. Copies of the script are available to check out at the Civic Office for one week at a time.
