Civic holds classes and workshops on a variety of theatrical topics, including acting and character development, directing, light and sound design, and many more topics. Director of Education, Julie Doan, will provide private coaching to students of all ages needing an extra edge in preparing for auditions, interviews, or public speaking engagements.

Spring Break Camp: Musical Theatre Experience

March 27 – 31, 2017

Campers ages 8-12 will prepare and perform a “Kids Collection” version of a popular musical (approximately 30 minutes in length). Students will be actively involved in designing set, props, and costumes, and will spend the week learning about what goes into preparing a musical theatre production including auditioning for roles (everyone gets a part), singing, choreography, memorization, scene work, and character development.

Final performance on Friday, March 31st beginning at 5:15 pm.

Students in the 2016-2017 Teen Troupe will:

-Develop the touring script "In Our Own Backyard," with an anti-bullying message,
-Learn about playwriting, acting for the camera, and improvisation,
-Build performance and team-building skills,
-Take part in unique performance opportunities within the Lafayette community.

Yearly Session: September-April, various Saturdays from 12:00-1:30 pm.

Teen Nights are held the weekend after the closing of a MainStage production. The objective of Teen Night is to provide a space for local teens from all area schools to gather and build their theatre community. For two hours, teens get to “play” in the theatre with student-led activities, including improvisation games, open mic nights, audition tips, and exploration of other theatre arts topics of interest provided from the group! Summer Theatre Institute: Macbeth

Campers ages 13-18 (entering or currently in high school) will study the scenes and characters of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” in the outdoor setting of the Haan Mansion’s Theatre Garden. Students will become familiar with the language and style of Shakespeare through acting exercises and study, while preparing the production for audiences at the conclusion of camp. Curtains Up Camp: Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr.

Campers ages 9-13. Days will consist of classes in voice, movement, acting and rehearsing Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Jr. All camp participants will be cast in the show. The performance will be a full-scale production with lights, sound and costumes! After the last performance, all cast and crew members will strike the set. Strike will be followed by a farewell party. This camp is very popular and sells out fast. All spots are on a first come, first served basis.
Show Dates: July 28th at 7:30 pm, 29th at 2:30 and 7:30 pm, 30th at 2:30 pm.
